consultation

All projects begin with an in-person consultation.

  • We'll discuss your overall landscape goals and identify your site’s challenges and opportunities.
  • Recommendations will be given based on the needs of your project and may include design concepts, resources, plant types, best management practices to maintain your landscape, and strategies to help you move forward with your project.
  • A Consultation Summary is included. Information may consist of an informal sketched diagram illustrating the concepts discussed, a Personal Plant Palette, references, or guided instructions, as needed.
  • Consultations usually take 1 hour. Extended consultations for large projects, extended reports, and additional consultations with your contractor are available. Additional fees will apply.
  • See Service Areas and Payment Details at the bottom of this page for more information.
  • There are two types of consultations: Design and Horticultural.  It's common for the type of info discussed at either consultation to overlap. But typically the main purpose of a consultation will fall into one of the following two categories:

Design

Horticultural

Horticultural

The design consultation will focus on layout options and hardscape elements.  As we walk the landscape, we'll discuss your outdoor living needs, preferences, and desired results. The information gathered during this introductory meeting will direct the process of creating your ideal landscape.

I’ll evaluate existing site conditions such as water patterns, soil type, microclimates, established plants, slopes, utilities, and community requirements. This will build the foundation for a design that aligns both with nature and your community. A Plant Palette will be introduced. Plant details are covered further in the design process.

 Recommendations will be given

to kick-start design solutions that build structure,

organize and transform space,

and create unity and flow throughout the landscape.

Horticultural

Horticultural

Horticultural

The horticultural consultation will focus on the living elements of your garden, or the softscape.

As we walk the landscape, we'll discuss your garden needs, preferences, and desired results. Whether you have a new landscape or need to update an existing one, we'll discuss ways to create a healthy, beautiful garden.

We'll identify plants that serve practical purposes such as providing shade, erosion control, and privacy.

Recommendations will be given for plants that will naturally thrive in their location, add seasonal interest, attract wildlife, and have little need for maintenance.

Plants and nature are good for our health.  Yet many of our current maintenance habits are harmful to us and the environment. We overwater excessive lawns, apply needless amounts of chemicals, create air and noise pollution, and stuff black plastic bags with

green waste for our landfills.

Discover how adopting "creative maintenance" habits will save time and money, and have a positive effect on your plants, the environment, and your family’s health.

design

To further define your landscape vision, a Design will illustrate the conceptual ideas in detail.

A well-planned and executed landscape will increase a property’s value and outdoor living potential, naturally thrive with less maintenance, and become more valuable with age.  A designed plan is a valuable communication tool that will help avoid costly mistakes and save you time and money in the future.

  • A Design is optional and is discussed during your consultation.
  • See Service Areas and Payment Details at the bottom of this page for more information.

* All elements shown on designs are for the sole purpose of providing conceptual ideas and should be verified by a licensed contractor.

Two types of designs are available:

Layout Concept Plan

  • A computer drawn, scaled plan that illustrates a clear picture of the design intent.
  • Starting with a base plan of the existing site, this 2D plan-view design illustrates locations of the proposed hardscapes, primary features, and types of plants.
  • A virtual zoom meeting review of the design will allow for further collaboration and includes rough 3D perspective views and a virtual 'walk-through' of the landscape.
  • Provides enough information for a landscape contractor to estimate installation costs. It can also be submitted for HOA approvals, and rebate programs such as Localscapes Rewards.

Planting Guide

  • For additional plant details, this computer drawn diagram of proposed plants includes plant names, locations, and quantities.
  • Once your landscape is ready for plants, details for a Planting Guide will be discussed during a Horticultural Consultation.
  • A virtual zoom meeting review of the design will allow for further collaboration.

Plant procurement

For a finishing touch, extended plant design services are available:

  • Additional Horticultural Consultations as needed
  • Guided nursery visit
  • Create, submit, and manage plant orders
  • Coordinate delivery
  • Assist with on-site plant placement

and installing plants are not included.
